Registrar in Emergency Medicine

The Client is a major acute teaching Hospital in Galway


The Emergency Department is a busy Department with 65,000 ED attendance annually.
The Hospital has 900 beds and is situated on two sites. It has all specialities apart from Neuro Surgery - it is a Supra Regional Centre for Cardiology and is one of the eight designated cancer centres. The Hospital and Medical School at NUIG shares a common Campus .
There are 300 + doctors in training from Internship, Basic Training Schemes to Higher Specialist Training. The hospital has 150 consultants some of whom share joint University Appointments.

The Emergency Department has 4 ED Consultants, 3 Specialist Registrars, 4 Registrars, 10 SHOs and 1 Intern in addition to a variety of Emergency Trained Nursing Staff at different grades.

Galway City is a vibrant City and one of the top tourist destination in Ireland and Europe .

Registrars are required for the above who ideally should have completed 2 years training in Medicine /Surgery of which 6 months should be in an ED in a large Teaching Hospital .

The Salary scale is from 50,578 euro to 60,305 euro depending on experience in addition to an accommodation allowance of 212 euro per four week. Additional pay is paid for working a shift and for Sundays and Bank holidays.

There is 6 weeks annual leave per year with generous study leave and course leave for those undertaking recognised degree and diploma courses . There is funding for courses such as ACLS,APLS, ATLS and for recognised Higher degree and diplomas. The ideal candidate must be registered on the General Division of the Medical Council of Ireland and should be available to commence in July 2011 for 1 year. Some assistance with relocation and accommodation in the first month is also provided.
